    Every so often, I go through a burnout.  It's not so much that I get tired of whatever I'm doing; I get overwhelmed by it.  Nothing is good enough, nothing is worth the effort, and it's just impossible to deal with (even though in actual truth there's nothing really difficult in it at all.)  Sometimes I find some project to override the burnout, and sometimes, like this time, all that can be done is take a break.  I switched back to kumihimo for my off time.  I did take pictures during this time, but not as many and I didn't do more than download the files from the cameras periodically.    But now, I'm back to missing stomping around th

           I mentioned before how out of hundreds of shots taken, only one will be worth anything.  What I didn't mention is that out of hundreds of worthwhile photos, only a few actually end up here, or on my other gallery accounts.           There's a number of reasons for it.  There'll be many shots of the same subject, a lot of which will be great, but you don't want to post every last one.  A gallery of the same picture with slight changes would get boring fast.  And there's the constant need for more time.  It might take me a couple of hours to do a full shoot.  It takes many hours more to go through all of the shots, delete the failu

One Shot

           When I go out shooting, I say, I'm going to get this, this, and this shot, and a host of others, and they are going to be wonderful, and they'll earn me a million dollars.           What I end up with is, on average, 150-300 shots.  50-100 will be total losses.  Out of focus, subject will have departed the frame just before exposure, f-stop and/or shutter speed will have been set wrong, leaving the shot too dark or too blown out to recover.  And the dreaded, "it looked crystal clear in the viewfinder, but it turns out the sensor doesn't record nearly as well as the eye sees."           90-190 will be "okay, but not really worth
